Following the release of yama's lyric video for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Season 2's opening theme, viewed over 2.5 million times in five weeks, the musical artist finally released a full-length music video for their single "slash." The song was released digitally first via major subscription services on April 9, and its CD single followed on May 10. The CD ranked 20th in Oricon's weekly single charts by selling 4,446 copies in its first week.
The music video features illustrations newly drawn by JUN INAGAWA, a creator who has been attracting much attention in the street scene in recent years and now known as the original creator of the ongoing TV anime Magical Destroyers.
"For me, it was the first time to draw with a real subject," INAGAWA said. "However, I was able to express it smoothly because our subcultural tastes and backgrounds were pretty close, and we also had a lot of fun with GORILLAZ. For example, the mask yama always wears has its own separate personality in this 'New yama,' and the statue 'Muni' appears as a hidden character... I incorporated a lot of ideas!"
