The popularity of ODDTAXI has seen the small-scale original TV anime go from the streets of Shibuya to the moon with the compilation film (that has new animation!) becoming a huge hit at Japanese theaters, despite only showing in a small number of locations across the country. The box office numbers for the fourth week were revealed today, announcing that ODDTAXI: In the Woods has made 130 million yen (US$1.03 million) at the Japanese box office.
Producer for the series Daisuke Hiraga said that "Due to the huge success of the film, the number of screening locations will gradually increase from the latter half of April, so we hope you will wait for the information on the release of the film." Crunchyroll has already confirmed the rights for the film after streaming the TV anime as part of the Spring 2021 season.

Hiraga also exclaimed "When I think back to the beginning of the project, the fact that it became a film is unbelievable. I think this scale of theater is an objectively accepted level for this film, so I am very happy that so many people have come to see the film and that it has exceeded the expectations set for it." ODDTAXI: Into the Wood was originally only released in 34 theaters across Japan.
ODDTAXI: In the Woods is a compilation film of the original TV anime but will also "depict the aftermath of the shocking final episode." Promising to tie up all the loose ends from the series.
ODDTAXI originally aired as part of the Spring 2021 season, with the series streaming on Crunchyroll at the same time. The film is set to be released in Japan on April 1 with Crunchyroll set to stream it later. Crunchyroll describes the TV anime as such:
This town should look familiar, but suddenly, it's not. The taxi driver Odokawa lives a very mundane life. He has no family, doesn't really hang out with others, and he's an oddball who is narrow-minded and doesn't talk much. The only people he can call his friends are his doctor, Gouriki and his classmate from high school, Kakibana. All of his patrons seem to be slightly odd themselves. The college student who wants to be noticed online, Kabasawa. A nurse with secrets, Shirakawa. A comedy duo, the Homosapiens... All these mundane conversations somehow lead to a girl who's gone missing.
