FYROM Citizens say ‘Yes’ to North Macedonia, But Only 35% of Them Voted

Source: greece.greekreporter.com - Sunday, September 30, 2018 FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev The referendum results for the change of the name of Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia went as expected, with 90 percent of voters saying “Yes” to North Macedonia, but only 34.76 percent of them went to the polls. In order for the referendum results to be valid, at least 50 percent plus one of registered voters needed to participate. Out of the nearly 1.8 million registered voters, only about 630,000 casted a ballot. Nevertheless, FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev spoke of a victory of the people who want the country to become a member of NATO and the European Union, without mentioning the low turnout. He said that the people’s will must be respected by all. Opposition party VMRO had called on citizens to boycott the ballot, while the Zaev administration rallied heavily on the “Yes” vote. “In democracies, those who decide are the citizens who vote. The citizens who voted largely endorsed t

Working While Homeless: A Tough Job For Thousands Of Californians

But what about the thousands of homeless Californians who are already working? Pinning down exactly how many Californians are working while homeless is not easy. Many try to hide it. But recent estimates suggest that it's not uncommon. A 2017 survey of the homeless population in San Francisco found 13 percent of respondents reporting part or full-time employment. That's in a city with an estimated 7,499 people experiencing homelessness. This year, an estimated 10 percent of the 4,990 people living unsheltered in San Diego said they were currently working . Source: www.accessonline.com - Sunday, September 30, 2018 One year after the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas, where shots rang out during Jason Aldean's set and claimed the lives of 58 concert-goers, several of the survivors attended Jason Aldean's concert in Irvine, Calif., on Saturday. Attending an Aldean concert was poignant and triumphant yet bittersweet for the survivors. Local reporters captured many of the survivors in attendance at the concert over the weekend. Several of them prayed together before his set. On Oct. 1, 2017, these survivors were enjoying Aldean's concert in Las Vegas when a gunman inside the Mandalay Bay hotel opened fire from a very high vantage point. Bullets rained down on the crowd, thousands ran for their lives, 58 people were killed and hundreds were injured. Week 4 AM game thread

Source: www.ninersnation.com - Sunday, September 30, 2018 It’s Sunday! Aside from the 49ers vs. Chargers, which game are you looking forward to? Welcome to Week 4 of the NFL season. The rest of the league has a tough act to follow with the tremendous Thursday Night Football contest between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings. I never thought I’d say that might be the game of the week, but that truly could have been the game of the week. The San Francisco 49ers get going in the afternoon at 1:25 P.M. in an away game against the Los Angeles Chargers . This gives the slew of morning games for us to watch since more games come on in the morning. It’s a shame that they also will be playing when the Cleveland Browns take on the Oakland Raiders . This will be Baker Mayfield ’s first start and I’m curious how the Raiders woes can continue into the season. The Browns are riding off their first win in 635 days which makes it nothing more intriguing to see if they can win a second game. I

The Debate Over “Devil’s Triangle” Shows Wikipedia At Its Best

Source: www.slate.com - Sunday, September 30, 2018 If the rest of the internet is lawless, Wikipedia stands out. Over the past 17 years, the community of Wikipedia editors has established a formal framework of policies, guidelines, and explanatory supplements to advance the goals of the project. Dutiful Wikipedians often refer to one of these rules when they remove something inappropriate from the site. If you “ listen to Wikipedia ” for a few minutes, you’ll see that edits like this happen all the time. What is unusual—and heretofore unprecedented—is for the objectionable content to play a role in a hearing about allegations that a nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court committed sexual assault while in high school. The subject came up on Wikipedia after Thursday’s Senate hearing, in which Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse asked Kavanaugh a series of questions about “Devil’s Triangle,” a reference in his high school yearbook that had raised eyebrows. Kavanaugh claimed that Devil’s Tria

"Mass Burials", Looting Begins As Death Toll From Indonesia Quake And Tsunami Hits 832

Rescuers struggled to reach trapped victims as debris from the storm left many remote areas out of reach. To prevent the spread of disease, health officials organized mass burials as desperate survivors resorted to looting, according to the South China Morning Post. "The casualties will keep increasing," said national disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, whose agency announced 832 deaths. Campaign to Repeal Gas Tax Short of Cash as California GOP Leaders Focus Funds on Other Contests

Source: ktla.com - Sunday, September 30, 2018 Top Republicans in California appear to be shifting resources away from an issue they hoped would lure voters to the polls in November: repealing the gas tax. After contributing $1.7 million to put a repeal initiative on the November ballot, Republican congressional leaders and GOP gubernatorial candidate John Cox are now conspicuously absent from the list of donors spending money to help convince Californians to pass the measure. Construction firms, organized labor and Democrats have raised more than $30 million to defeat Proposition 6, while the main campaign committee in favor of the measure had just $83,291 in the bank as of Sept. 22, according to campaign finance statements made public Thursday. The opposition campaign includes the California Chamber of Commerce, the League of California Cities and dozens of deep-pocketed construction firms and labor unions that would benefit from the tax’s billions targeted to road and bridge repair

Source: johnib.wordpress.com - Sunday, September 30, 2018 The death toll from a Friday evening earthquake and tsunami on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi jumped to 384 on Saturday, authorities said, with many of those killed swept away by giant waves as they played on the beach in the city of Palu. Strong aftershocks continued to rock the city on Saturday morning after waves up to 6 meters (18 feet) high swept through the scenic tourist town Friday, triggered by a 7.5 magnitude earthquake on land. “When the (tsunami) threat arose yesterday, people were still doing their activities on the beach and did not immediately run and they became victims,” said the spokesman for the disaster mitigation agency BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, in Jakarta. Hundreds of people were preparing for a beach festival to celebrate Palu’s anniversary. The festival was due to start Friday night. Some people climbed trees to escape the tsunami and survived, Nugroho said. Residents helping remove a body after the

Bucs at Bears: Five keys to victory

Source: www.bucsnation.com - Sunday, September 30, 2018 Tampa Bay will have its hands full against the top pass rush in the league. Tampa Bay struggled in multiple facets of the game during its loss to Pittsburgh on Monday night. The Buccaneers committed four turnovers, lost out on a punt return touchdown due to a hold, and allowed Pittsburgh to ice the game with a poor final drive on defense. That being said, the Bucs don’t have any time to hold their heads as they enter a tilt with a Chicago Bears team that boasts one of the top defenses in the NFL. On the other side of the ball, Tampa Bay’s defense may finally be able to find a rhythm against a struggling Bears offense after getting diced up by Ben Roethlisberger last week. Once again, this game will come down to Ryan Fitzpatrick ’s performance. Despite a 400+ yard performance a week ago, Fitzpatrick tossed three crucial interceptions in the first half that cost Tampa Bay points. He can’t afford to do that again in week four, or el

Maurizio Sarri told he’s making a Chelsea FC mistake with N’Golo Kante

Source: www.thesportreview.com - Sunday, September 30, 2018 Paul Merson believes that N’Golo Kante is not suited to playing further forward as he has done for Chelsea FC this season. Kante is widely regarded as one of world football’s best holding midfielders and he helped both Leicester City and Chelsea FC to win the Premier League title with his fine performances in midfield. Maurizio Sarri has opted to deploy Kante in a slightly more advanced position in midfield to make space for summer signing Jorginho in his Chelsea FC side. However, Merson feels that playing Kante there is not as beneficial to the Chelsea FC team as when he plays in his typical holding midfield role. Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports , Merson said: “It isn’t his position further up the pitch. “He gets around. To win two titles with two different teams shows how good he is [in a deeper role].” Chelsea FC are aiming to be one of the main challengers for the Premier League title this season after they finis

LibLink: Jo Swinson Parental pay transparency would do wonders for workplace equality – but the government need to take action

Source: www.libdemvoice.org - Sunday, September 30, 2018 This week, Jo Swinson has persuaded 10 major firms to share their parental leave policies as a key element in the fight against maternity discrimination. Jo, who introduced shared parental leave as a Business Minister, now wants companies to go further to encourage employees and attract more people to work for them: She wrote for the Independent about why this was so important: A new mother forced to resign after being bombarded with texts and emails telling her she “obviously can’t work with two kids”. Another one who returns to work to find herself reapplying for her job after a company restructure. And another who feels she has no choice but to quit because her employer won’t give her the time and space she needs to express milk for her daughter. These are just a small selection of the real-life stories published by Pregnant then Screwed , a campaign group that protects and promotes the rights of mothers. They are a powerful

Source: time.com - Sunday, September 30, 2018 (PALU, Indonesia) — Rescuers in Indonesia were scrambling Sunday to reach trapped victims screaming for help from collapsed buildings, while looters risked entering an unstable shopping mall to grab whatever they could find after a massive earthquake spawned a tsunami that left more than 800 dead. People could still be heard calling out from the eight-story Roa-Roa Hotel which toppled as Friday’s twin disasters swept through the hard-hit city of Palu on the island of Sulawesi, said Muhammad Syaugi, the head of Indonesia’s search and rescue agency. “I can still hear the voices of the survivors screaming for help while inspecting the compound,” he told local online news portal Detik.com, adding there could be 50 people trapped inside. Disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told a news conference Sunday that the death toll had more than doubled to 832, with nearly all of those killed in Palu. He said there were still not comprehensive
