ONE REASON THAT EUROPE MOCKS AMERICAN CHEESES IS THAT THEY’VE NEVER HAD ANY: It doesn’t help that…

Source: pjmedia.com - Saturday, August 31, 2019 ONE REASON THAT EUROPE MOCKS AMERICAN CHEESES IS THAT THEY’VE NEVER HAD ANY: It doesn’t help that it’s hugely expensive to get US cheese across the pond. There are some massive tariffs on US cheese – currently set by the EU and the UK, depending on the type of cheese – to come into the UK. “It’s up to £60 ($73) a kilogramme,” says Mr McGuigan. “If you’re trying to sell to a British customer, you’re saying, ‘we have this cheese that’s amazing – it’s £60.’ You can see a lot of shoppers going, ‘hmm I’m not sure.'” “They are good cheeses. But there are some good cheeses [from elsewhere] which are half price.” Cheddar, for example, is subject to a 167.10 euro ($187.72) per 100kg tariff, with Colby at 151 euro ($166.92) per 100kg. Trying to find US cheeses in London, for people to taste test it for this article, proved impossible. It’s usually only brought in for special occasions, like Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is when Ms Michelso

World War II Teaches Us How World War III Could Happen (And Would Be Hell)

Source: nationalinterest.org - Saturday, August 31, 2019 James Holmes Security, Asia Bottom line, there’s a whiff of the 1930s in the air in East Asia today. Marauding Polish troops were culpable for fourteen military incidents along the Polish-German frontier eighty years ago. The reluctant German government felt compelled to order the army to respond— and World War II was on . Or at least that’s what Adolf Hitler would have you believe . That day the Nazi dictator informed the Reichstag, or parliament, that he had “resolved to speak to Poland in the same language” that Poland had used armed force for months before the onset of fighting. “This night,” Hitler claimed, “Polish regular soldiers fired on our territory... Since 5:45 A.M. we have been returning the fire, and from now on bombs will be met by bombs.” In other words, Poland picked a fight and put-upon Germany accepted it. In reality, Hitler had made common cause with a fellow dictator, Josef Stalin, who had previously sought

Just Hours After Mass Shooting In Odessa, State Of Texas Introduces 12 New Laws Loosening Gun Restrictions

Source: www.inquisitr.com - Saturday, August 31, 2019 Just hours after a mass shooting around Odessa, Texas, claimed five lives and left close to two dozen wounded, the state is set to loosen restrictions on guns through a series of new laws passed by state lawmakers. On Saturday, police said a gunman went on a shooting spree around Odessa, killing five people and firing at random from his vehicle and then from a mail truck that he hijacked, CNN reported. The gunman was shot and killed by police in a dramatic shootout that was caught on video by an onlooker. Police did not release a motive for the shooting, and the deceased shooter remains unidentified. The shooting came exactly two weeks after a gunman opened fire further west in the state at a Walmart shopping center in El Paso. After Saturday’s mass shooting, a number of politicians responded by calling for stronger gun restrictions and national gun reform, a common refrain after mass shootings in recent months. Baseball game ends in sadness and frustration

Source: www.letsgotribe.com - Saturday, August 31, 2019 Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports Not a great display of baseball on most fronts. This was not a fun baseball game. It started off pretty fun, but it quickly nosedived into a flaming crater of despair. The fun part(s) Carlos Santana demands your attention. He added two more hits on the year, including his 31st home run in the first inning. That would be all the offense that the Indians could muster for the majority of the game, but Santana at least gave us all the illusion that this would be a fun day of baseball. His other hit was a double in the third inning that would’ve tacked on another run had it not been for Francisco Lindor getting thrown out at the plate. Speaking of Francisco Lindor, he also gave the team a glimmer of hope in the eighth with a two-run homer to right center. Prior to the home run, the Indians were down 9-2, so it wasn’t a monumental home run, but it was nice at any rate. The final bit of offense came in the

Talking Monster Hunter World: Iceborne with Ryozo Tsujimoto

Monster Hunter: World Iceborne is less than a week away (at least if you're playing on console, anyway), so we decided to catch up with Iceborne producer Ryozo Tsujimoto at PAX West 2019 for a quick chat before we head to Hoarfrost Reach. Ryozo Tsujimoto: you know, in terms of creating a new weapon is something that we do always consider. I mean, there's there's a lot of various things that we always consider when creating Monster Hunter. But, you know, it's not something that we want to force in. Study says there is no one 'gay gene,' but thousands of genetic variants linked to homosexuality

Source: holybulliesandheadlessmonsters.blogspot.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 Before the anti-LGBTQ industry has the opportunity to twist this study, we should get abreast of all the facts. From Reuters : A large scientific study into the biological basis of sexual behaviour has confirmed there is no single “gay gene” but that a complex mix of genetics and environment affects whether a person has same-sex sexual partners.  The research, which analysed data on DNA and sexual experiences from almost half a million people, found there are thousands of genetic variants linked to same-sex sexual behaviour, most with very small effects.  Five of the genetic markers were “significantly” associated with same-sex behaviour, the researchers said, but even these are far from being predictive of a person’s sexual preferences.  “We scanned the entire human genome and found a handful - five to be precise - of locations that are clearly associated with whether a person reports in engaging in same-

Source: www.debatepolitics.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 If conservatives cared about children, they would not make excuses for why it is ok to rip any child away from their parents, stick them in cages and forget which warehouse they have been sent to, who have, at most, committed a misdemeanor, not a felony, when they crossed the border. if conservatives really cared about children they would not make excuses for supporting this administrations cuts to family services that provide food, healthcare, and safe places to live for the children of the very poor. If conservatives really cared.... they would wake up and realize that if they really wanted to save the lives of those they call the "unborn"...they would have to get out and actually do whatever they could to help pregnant women leaning towards abortion to have better options. Like helping their bills, providing a a place to live if she couldn't afford to quit work to carry her baby to term and then take maternity

Georgia Southern-LSU TV network change due to Hurricane Dorian

Source: www.teamspeedkills.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports The Tigers will be on SEC Network Saturday night While no college football games have been cancelled due to this weekend’s expected landfall of Hurricane Dorian, the relocation of FSU/Boise State started a domino effect that has affected two SEC games. As noted earlier, FSU/Boise State is moving to Tallahassee and changing times, which meant ESPN was open for Georgia/Vanderbilt , which meant SEC Network was open for LSU/Georgia Southern, which will still kickoff at 6:30 p.m. Got all that? Good. It’s a minor change, but a change to note nonetheless. All Related Source: Breaking News

Conservatives wouldn’t reopen debates on same-sex marriage or abortion, Scheer says

Source: www.thestar.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 Whatever is in Andrew Scheer’s heart today on social issues like abortion and same-sex marriage, we still don’t quite know. But the Conservative leader revealed on Thursday with clarity what’s in his head, vowing to oppose any effort to revisit either issue, including any attempt to advance social legislation from his own backbench. Pushing back hard after more than a week of Liberal attacks hinting a Scheer government might take Canada back in time to the social norms of the mid-20th century, the Conservative leader promised otherwise, saying, “I will always oppose measures that reopen these types of debates.” On same-sex marriage, Scheer spelled it out in both French and English, declaring the issue “settled’ since 2005. “A vote was held, it’s settled. Canadians have moved on, I’ve moved on,” he told reporters at Toronto Pearson International Airport. “I will always stand up for the equality rights of LGBT Canadians. It is complet

Colleges and universities in Florida are also making plans based on the storm. We're gathering that information from our local districts and schools, and we'll compile it here as we hear from them. Duval County On Thursday, Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene said that schools will remain open this week, but the district was watching Dorian and has not made any decisions about next week. Some gas stations near Duval-St. Johns county line without fuel

Source: www.news4jax.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 Florida residents picked the shelves clean of bottled water and lined up at gas stations Thursday as an increasingly menacing-looking Hurricane Dorian threatened to broadside the state. Along Florida's east coast, local governments began distributing sandbags, shoppers rushed to stock up on food, plywood and other emergency supplies at supermarkets and hardware stores, and motorists topped off their tanks and filled gasoline cans. Some gas stations around the Duval-St. Johns county line were without fuel Thursday night. About 8:15 p.m., there was a Mobil gas station on San Jose Boulevard in Mandarin where all 14 pumps had bags over them. An employee said the station was supposed to get a new shipment later that night. Just after 9 p.m., News4Jax found a Mobil and a Gate off San Jose Boulevard near the county line that were without gas. Both told News4Jax that gas should be there sometime later in the evening. Final Score: Cubs 4, Mets 1 — To the Victor Go the Spoils

Source: www.amazinavenue.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports A pair of homers from Victor Caratini lead the Cubs to a sweep in Flushing. Coming into a series where they needed to take at least two games from the Cubs , the Mets were swept at home as Chicago secured a 4-1 victory in the series finale. After nearly six innings of being locked in a 1-1 tie, the Cubs finally broke through against Jacob deGrom in the seventh inning as Victor Caratini ’s three-run homer was the final nail in the Mets’ coffin. Despite cruising and never pitching out of the stretch until that seventh inning, deGrom allowed more than three earned runs for the first time since his dreadful start against Miami on May 17th as Caratini drove in all four runs against him. While Seth Lugo and Jeurys Familia pitched a pair of shutout innings, the damage was already done. For the Mets, their only run came on their third batter of the night as J.D. Davis parked a ball over the apple for his th

Here Are The Best Throwback Paint Schemes This Weekend At Darlington

Source: nesn.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 It’s Labor Day Weekend, which means one thing for NASCAR fans — Darlington. Since the Southern 500 was moved back to its traditional date in late summer, the weekend has embraced its old-school feel and has given it a throwback theme since 2015 — and Sunday night’s race will be no different. Many teams and drivers in the Monster Energy Cup Series and the Xfinity Series will give nods to retro paint schemes from the 1990s and earlier. Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is running the Xfinity race on Saturday in his dad’s first-ever paint scheme. There are plenty of other sick schemes taking on the track “too tough to tame,” hoping to avoid the infamous Darlington stripe. Here are some of the best: Ryan Newman, No. 6 Ford The Oscar Mayer Ford pays homage to Mark Martin’s 1993 scheme that scored Jack Roush’s first Southern 500 win in 1993. National Day of Mourning Will Remember 20 Million Black Babies Killed in Abortion

Source: www.lifenews.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 Pro-life advocates will mark the National Day of Mourning for the Unborn on Friday with a prayerful, peaceful protest for the millions of unborn babies who have been slaughtered in abortions. Among the organizers is Alveda King, the director of the Civil Rights for the Unborn outreach through Priests for Life and the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She expressed sorrow at the 61 million unborn babies who have been aborted, including 20 million unborn black babies, since Roe v. Wade in 1973. “In New York City, more black babies are aborted than born,” King said. “It’s not racist to point out this truth. It is racist to perpetuate this genocide.” She, Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, and other pro-life advocates also plan to embark on an outreach through four southern states on Friday. Organized by Civil Rights for the Unborn, The Restoration Project and the Douglass Leadership Institute, pro-life and c

'Media Technology' Org Teams With MRC To Push Idea That Google Is Biased Against Conservatives

Source: conwebwatch.tripod.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 The last time we noticed AllSides -- an organization that claims to be about eliminating "filter bubbles" so people "can better understand the world" -- it was when the Media Research Center embraced a study from the group claiming that Google put "left-leaning" news websites at the top of its news search results, using a methodology that conveniently assigned most mainstream media outlets as "left-leaning." It appears that AllSides' work dovetails so closely with the MRC's anti-media mission that it granted AllSides space at NewsBusters to push a similar study. Co-founder John Gables and editor Henry Brechter write in an Aug. 9 NewsBusters post : AllSides, a media technology company that provides media bias ratings and balanced news across the political spectrum, conducted an audit of Google’s “Top Stories” section following the two mass shootings that occurred in Dayton, OH and

Dozens attend funeral of WWII vet with no living family

Source: wgno.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 Click here for updates on this story GRAND RAPIDS, MI ( WXMI ) — Dozens of veterans, the Honor Guard, and total strangers came out Thursday morning to pay their respects to a World War II veteran. James Kelly’s funeral was expected to be pretty empty because he has no living family, but after a call for action, dozens showed up to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans to celebrate his life. “He passed away here at the Veterans Home with no family. Today we are that family,” said Philip Pakiela from the Patriot Guard Riders. When he died in August, the home was concerned there wouldn’t be enough turnout for his funeral so they called for reinforcements: the Patriot and Honor Guard. But many more showed up, some from hundreds of miles away. “That’s what it should be for a veteran that served in the military, especially in World War II,” said David Scott McIntosh who traveled from South Carolina to attend. Kelly served in WWII at the age of 20. H

Space Command to reopen with Pentagon ceremony, but with no one to command in space

Source: www.dailykos.com - Thursday, August 29, 2019 This is a big day in space. On the ground. This is the day that Space Command begins officially protecting the United States from asteroids (except they can’t), and Russian missiles (not that either), and invading aliens bent on stealing Greenland (sure, why not?). Actually, Space Command will focus on threats to satellites. Which are many. Because satellites are essentially sitting ducks that can be knocked down, or treated to a “rapid unplanned disassembly,” whether or not some agency is charged with watching them. Space Command will also take over dealing with satellite communications for the military and providing warnings like the helpful false alarm that sent Hawaii scrambling in 2018. Trump plans on attending a ceremony to mark the grand reopening of a command that was found to be redundant and wasteful before it was closed 17 years ago. But don’t get confused. This is not Space Force. There still is no Space Force. That mean
