Japan Box Office: Rohan au Louvre Live-Action Film Makes 3rd Place Debut

 

The live-action feature film adaptation of Hirohiko Araki's Rohan au Louvre manga was released in 272 theaters across Japan on May 26, earning 315 million yen (2.24 million USD) on 221,000 admissions in its first three-day weekend. The film also ranked second in Filmarks' first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.84/5.0 based on 3,013 reviews.

Rohan au Louvre is one of the episodes in Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, a spin-off to Araki's long-running JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, with the protagonist Rohan Kishibe is one of the main characters in JoJo's fourth installment, Diamond is Unbreakable. Its live-action TV drama series starring Issei Takahashi as Rohan aired eight episodes on NHK General TV between 2020 and 2022. The TV drama's main staff and cast members, including Takahashi and Marie Iitoyo as Kyoka Izumi, all return.

 

In its seventh weekend, the Detective Conan anime franchise's 26th feature film, Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine, ranked fourth, one position down from the previous weekend. Its total domestic gross reached 12.2 billion yen (87 million USD) on 8.6 million admissions. It has become the 13th top-grossing Japanese film of all time, surpassing Hayao Miyazaki's 2013 film, The Wind Rises (12.02 billion yen).

 

After making its fifth-place debut last weekend, IDOLiSH 7 LIVE 4bit BEYOND THE PERiOD — the first concert film from the male idol-themed multimedia franchise IDOLiSH7 — ranked sixth, bringing its total to 410 million yen (2.92 million USD) on 224,800 admissions.

 

In its final 29th weekend, Makoto Shinkai's Suzume returned to the weekend box office top 10 one more time, ranking eighth. The film finally ended its theatrical run in Japan on May 27 with the total domestic gross of 14.79 billion yen (105.4 million USD) on 11.25 million admissions.

 

PSYCHO-PASS PROVIDENCE, the latest feature film from Production I.G's PSYCHO-PASS anime franchise, moved up one spot from last week, ranking ninth. Its cumulative gross has reached 443 million yen (3.16 million USD).
