This year's Game Developers Conference will be held March 21-25 in San Francisco, CA, and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii is set to receive top honors. The official GDC website announced that Horii—who created the influential RPG series that first launched on Famicom back in 1986—will be getting the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the industry.
GDC also announced the recipient of the Ambassador Award, which goes to Steven Spohn, Senior Director of Development of the AbleGamers charity. Spohn is receiving the award for his years of work advocating for accessibility in video games in his position at the charity, as well as in his work as a streamer and award-winning author.
Members of the Game Developers Choice Special Awards Jury—which is responsible for choosing the recipients of both honors—include game industry veterans Chandana Ekanayake, Greg Kasavin, Dana Nightingale, Siobhan Reddy and Kiki Wolfkill, based on suggestions from the International Choice Awards Network (ICAN).
