As a bonus footage, a special interview between the original author Atsushi Kamijo and the OVA's music director Masaya Matsuura, who reunited for the first time in 34 years, is also included in the Blu-ray.

The manga featuring a young rock singer with exceptional looks and innate musicality was serialized Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday from April 1985 to March 1987, then compiled in ten tankobon volumes. After the serialization ended, its OVA was released in Japan on October 1, 1987. Studio Gallop worked on anime production, Mamoru Hamatsu (Legendary Armor Samurai Troopers) served as director.

Kamijo talks about the OVA on Twitter: "It was when the To-y manga had just finished its serialization, so the story of the OVA was very different from the original. It's a 'what if' story. If you're watching the anime for the first time, please don't try to pick flaws. Because it was produced 30 years ago (laughs). Please just enjoy each 'what if'!"
