Junji Ito Apologises for Giving "Undue Expectations" on Working With Hideo Kojima

Junji Ito

We reported yesterday that the master of horror manga Junji Ito was "in conversation" with Hideo Kojima on an upcoming game, though it was very early on in production – likely not even on the planning stage yet.

In a disappointing turn of events, Ito clarified his answer on his Twitter account that the "conversation" was "little more than an 'I may ask for your cooperation if the opportunity arises' during a passing conversation at a party." Kojima being the one expression to Ito that he'll be asking for help.

Translation of the above tweet from Junji Ito:

"I had flippantly replied to a question in an interview for international audiences that director Hideo Kojima had approached me for a job, but in reality it was little more than an "I may ask for your cooperation if the opportunity arises" during a passing conversation at a party. I would like to offer my apologies to director Hideo Kojima and everyone who may have been given undue expectations.

I'm sorry for speaking publicly when I shouldn't have been so forthcoming."

While these comments don't outright deny something is in the works – as we also reported yesterday, Kojima is doing research – it does mean that there is nothing concrete coming at this stage, meaning Kojima's next game might not be the Silent Hills successor that we all want. At least we know Kojima is thinking about it, and talking to others, even if it is over a few drinks.
