Ado Makes Japanese Music Chart History With Uta and One Piece Film: Red

One Piece Film: Red

One Piece Film: Red isn’t only topping box office charts in Japan, the music from the film has taken over the Oricon charts, the leading music sales tracker for Japan, making music history in the meantime. Oricon reported this morning that for the first time ever, Ado as Uta has all three of the tracker’s digital rankings for three weeks and is also the first artist in Oricon’s history to have five songs in the Top 5 streaming chart ever, doing so for the past two weeks.

“New Genesis” has topped the Weekly Digital Single (Single Song) Ranking over the past four weeks and marks the second time a solo female artist has topped the charts for a month after LiSA’s “Homura,” the theme song for Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train did so for 13 weeks back in late 2020 / early 2021.

The “Uta no Uta ONE PIECE FILM RED” album has come in first for the Weekly Digital Album Ranking for the past three weeks, which features “New Genesis” as well as Ado as Uta’s other songs.

“New Genesis” is also the most streamed song of the week, topping the Weekly Streaming Ranking with 18,246,491 plays over the past week and 106,916,252 plays in general. This is its 12th week at number one and is the 4th fastest song in Japanese history to reach 100 million plays.

On the weekly streaming charts, “I'm Invincible” came in second, with “Backlight” coming in third, “Fleeting Lullaby” in fourth place and finally “Tot Musica” in fifth place. This marks the second time one artist has dominated the top five after Ado did so last week and the first time that all songs in the top five had reached over 10 million plays over the last week. Ado previously held the record of the top four songs reaching 10 million plays last week.

One Piece Film: Red opened in Japanese theaters on August 6. Crunchyroll, who'll be releasing the film internationally across the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand sometime this fall, describes the seafaring musical adventure as such:

Uta —the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans—excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance—the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks' daughter.

The One Piece TV anime is also still going strong, with over 1,000 episodes of the series streaming right here on Crunchyroll, with new episodes coming out as they air in Japan.
