World Cosplay Summit is an international event that began in 2003 and has attracted 300,000 people from 40 countries and regions around the world as of 2019. Its 2020 event was held only online for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and some real events were resumed last year.

This year, representative cosplayers selected from each member country and region will gather in Japan for the first time in three years. Although it is difficult to have representatives from all member countries and regions due to the infection situation in each region, this year's event will again be a hybrid of real and online events, connecting the world as one through cosplay.

This year's World Cosplay Championship will be held in two ways: Stage Division, a performance on stage by teams gathered at Aichi Arts Center in Nagoya, and Video Division, in which teams that cannot come to Japan can also participate online to be streamed from Oasis 21.

Also, the 20th annual event will be held simultaneously again with Aichi Pop Culture Festival, a comprehensive pop culture event organized by the Aichi Pop Fest Executive Committee. As an anime and manga-themed event, a variety of activities, including booths for amateur creators and corporate exhibitors, are planned.
