Mission Not Accomplished: Trump Bails on Hanoi Summit Early With No Deal

President Donald Trump left Hanoi, Vietnam early on Thursday after denuclearization talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un broke down. Trump said at a presser that the talks failed when North Korea demanded all sanctions be lifted — “and we couldn’t do that.” The disagreement prompted the cancellation of a working lunch and joint agreement signing ceremony and Trump’s early departure on Air Force One. “Actually I think it was a very productive two days, but sometimes you just have to walk,” Trump told reporters, which you can watch above. The two sides “couldn’t even agree on the definition of denuclearization,” explained CNN senior correspondent Michelle Kosinski from Hanoi. “This is proof that President Trump’s insistence on this top-down approach to this extremely complicated decades-long problem is not necessarily going to work out the way he expects.” “They couldn’t even finish this summit and have lunch together,” she added.
