Following WINK's 1989 song "Sabishii Nettaigyo", anisong duo ClariS has released a new music video for a cover version of another hit song from the 1980s. This time they sing "Haikara-san ga Tooru," the theme song for the live-action film adaptation of Waki Yamato's classic shoujo manga of the same name.

The song was originally sung by Yoko Minamino, who played the protagonist Benio Hanamura in the film, and was released as her 10th single on December 2, 1987. It ranked No.1 on Oricon's weekly single charts and sold 270,000 copies, making it the third biggest hit of her career. ClariS' cover version was digitally released today on June 8, and along with "Sabishii Nettaigyo," it will be included in their new concept EP to be available on June 21.
Both music videos pay homage to the two famous Japanese TV music shows in the 1980s — TBS' "The Best Ten" and Fuji TV's "Yoru no Hit Studio." the director of both videos, Yuji Motoyoshi says, "When we decided to produce the music videos, we received an order to make a Showa-style song show, so we tried to create a unique work that was a mixture of fiction and non-fiction so as not to destroy the atmosphere of the time. I made a music video that will catch something from both those who know the period and those who don't."
