To commemorate the 10th-anniversary of the publication of Reki Kawahara's internationally popular light novel series Sword Art Online, KADOKAWA has decided to collaborate with the world-famous stuffed toy brand Steiff to release two collaboration teddy bear dolls inspired by the novel's protagonist Kirito and the main heroine Asuna. The series has been released from the publisher's light novel imprint Dengeki Bunko since April 2009 and has printed more than 26 million copies worldwide.
The 26 cm-tall Kirito teddy bear wears his black long coat as the "Black Swordsman," while the 25 cm-tall Asuna bear's costume is based on the one she wears as the Knights of the Blood's sub-leader. The price for both items in Japan is 45,000 yen (about 420 US dollars).
Pre-orders for the two limited-production items will be accepted Dengeki's official online store Dengekiya until July 31, 2020 (If the planned number is reached, the pre-orders may be ended at any time). The scheduled shipping date is September 2020.
