Beginning in 1976, the manga was serialized in Akita Shoten's various shojo manga magazines, including Viva Princess (1976-), Monthly Princess (1979-), and Princess Gold (2008-), and has become the author's longest running series. CMS originally released the manga in English, with volume 15 being the final release in 2010. The story follows the illegal art collection activities of Dorian Red Gloria, Earl of Gloria, known as the thief "Eroica," and the operational activities of Major Klaus Heinz von dem Eberbach, an intelligence officer of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), known as "Klaus the Iron," as they travel around the world.

The much-awaited stage play adaptation is directed by ex-Takarazuka director Akiko Kodama, who worked the all-female musical theatre troupe's musical adaptations of The Rose of Versailles and Legend of the Galactic Heroes. The play is set to be performed at Shibuya Ward Cultural Center Owada Sakura Hall in Tokyo from May 11 to 14, 2023. General sales of the tickets will begin on April 22.
