Moyashi Fujisawa's Burn the House Down Suspense Manga Gets Live-action Adaptation on Netflix Next Year

Netflix announced today that a live-action drama adaptation of Moyashi Fujisawa's suspense manga Mitarai-ke, Enjou Suru / Burn the House Down will be streamed worldwide in 2023. Yuichiro Hirakawa (The Promised Neverland live-action film) is attached to direct on scripts by Arisa Kaneko (My little Monster live-action film).

The manga was serialized in Kodansha's Kiss monthly josei manga magazine from 2017 to 2021, then compiled in eight tankobon volumes. Its English edition has been released by Kodansha USA and its latest third volume is set to be released on August 23, 2022. The publisher describes its synopsis as below:

Shizuka Yamauchi, 25, housekeeper. Makiko Mitarai, 46, amateur model and perfect housewife. Though strangers on the outside, the two share a past—one Shizuka feels she needs to set right, to bring her mother justice. But Makiko has secrets of her own, and Shizuka will need to tread carefully if she's to get to the bottom of it all without getting burned.

In the live-action drama, Mei Nagano (Rinko Yamato in My Love Story!! live-action film) is cast as Anzu Murata / Shizuka Yamauchi, while Kyoka Suzuki plays Makiko Mitarai.

Nagano says, "I was genuinely happy to participate in a Netflix series that will be streamed worldwide. I read the original manga right away, and while it is a home suspense with a sense of speed, there are also scenes where I was moved by the feelings of each member of the family, which made me look forward to filming the drama as soon as possible." And Suzuki adds, "Makiko, who I played, is a very disturbing and scary woman. It was a difficult role, but I think the dialogue with Mei Nagano-san's character, Anzu, was very interesting. This is a drama that can be enjoyed by people of all ages."
