Tasuku Hatanaka's talent agency Ken Production announced earlier today that the Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress voice actor, who played Ikoma, had tested positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, I'm Enterprise, the agency for Sayaka Senbongi who voiced Mumei in the same series and marred Hatanaka in 2019, revealed that according to the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health, Senbongi is classified as a close contact, though has tested negative for the virus.

According to Ken Production, Tasuku Hatanaka had come down with a fever on the morning of July 28 and underwent a PCR almost immediately. Later that day, it came back positive, This is when I'm Enterprise also announced that Sayaka Senbongi was a close contact and had also undertaken a precautionary PCR test, which came back negative. Both are under observation by their local health center, with Hatanaka undergoing treatment.
This comes as Japan records its second record-breaking day of new COVID-19 cases and 114 deaths, with Tokyo itself reaching over 40,000 new cases. The World Health Organisation announced that Japan is currently the world leader in new COVID-19 cases, followed closely by the United States, though Nikkei Asia notes that per capita, Japan ranks 9th behind Australia.
