My Hero Academia’s Kohei Horikoshi Draws Sketch for Heroes: Rising 4DX Screenings, Sneaks in Kobe Tribute

 

The latest My Hero Academia anime film, My Hero Academia THE MOVIE Heroes: Rising, has been playing in Japanese cinemas since December 20 and has gotten rave reviews for its animation and story. To bring cinema-goers closer to the action, a 4DX version of the film was released in 81 Japanese theaters on January 24. The creator of the manga series, Kohei Horikoshi went to see the new version of the film and drew a sketch on his Twitter in his excitement over the anime film.

The tweet from Horikoshi reads, “I watched the 4DX version [of My Hero Academia THE MOVIE Heroes: Rising]. The increased sensitivity was amazing! I want to nurture both Mahoro Shimano and Katsuma Shimano.”

Keen-eyed people noticed that the sketch featured Deku wearing Kobe Bryant’s shoes, posted only a day after the tragic death of the basketball legend and his 13-year old daughter in a helicopter accident. Horikoshi is well known as a big fan of American media, including comic books and sports, so the tribute to one of basketball’s biggest stars being subtly inserted in a drawing would be the most fitting tribute the great man.

 

The film opens in North America on February 26 for a limited run, and in Australia on March 12.
