Fafner in the Azure Spin-off BEHIND THE LINE Gets January 20 Theatrical Release

Fafner in the Azure: BEHIND THE LINE

At an event today in Ikebukuro for the Fafner in the Azure series, it was announced that the peaceful spin-off anime set between Fafner in the Azure: Heaven and Earth and the 2015 Fafner Exodus TV anime, Fafner in the Azure: BEHIND THE LINE, will be released theatrically in Japan on January 20, 2023. A new trailer for the theatrical run was released to coincide with the news.

Fafner in the Azure: BEHIND THE LINE will be released theatrically on January 20 in advance of its full release, which at this time isn’t confirmed. The 2010 film Fafner in the Azure: Heaven and Earth has been remastered and is currently airing in Japanese theaters, having premiered today.

BEHIND THE LINE is set in the peaceful time between the 2010 film and the 2015 TV anime series and will feature the same staff and cast as the Fafner in the Azure: The Beyond OVAs at Production I.G.

Crunchyroll is streaming the 2015 Fafner Exodus TV anime, the second in the franchise and set after the Heaven and Earth film, describing the series as such:

2150 AD. The battle against the silicon-based Festums from outer space reaches a new phase. Fragments of the North Pole Mir were scattered throughout the world. Eventually, they began to act on their own as independent Mirs. Most hated humanity and attacked them, but some chose to coexist with mankind. Some with the same way of thinking existed within the human race, as well: those who were both human and Festum. They added to the chaos of the battle and brought about even more hatred.
