When the going to gets tough, the tough get down on their hands and knees and grovel, or at least that's the premise in Dogeza de tanondemita ("I Thought I'd Try Begging with a Deep Bow"), a newly announced short animation based on the doujinshi series by Kazuki Funatsu. Key staff members have been revealed for the production, including:

  • Original work: Kazuki Funatsu
  • Director: Shinpei Nagai
  • Animatics creator: Shinpei Nagai
  • Character design: HARIBOTE

The original Dogeza de tanondemita books were adult-oriented, self-published works printed for Comiket in 2017 and 2018, but the series has also been adapted for geneal audiences with a 2018 trade paperback by KADOKAWA and a two-part 2018 novelization from Bishoujo Bunko (of France Publishing House).

A key visual for the upcoming Dogeza de tanondemita short form animation, featuring one of the main lady character's being surprised by Dogesuwaru prostrating himself at her feet.

The story follows Dogesuwaru, a passionate young man who wants to learn all he can about romancing women. Dogesuwaru stumbles onto what he considers a fool-proof strategy for winning the affection of young ladies: performing a "dogeza", an extremely formal bow in which the bower prostrates themselves on their hands and knees and touches their forehead to the ground in a show of reverence.

The release date for Dogeza de tanondemita has not yet been revealed, although an official website and Twitter feed (@dgz_anime) have been published for the series.
