Over the 20-plus year span of the Pokémon TV anime series, Ash has had many companions on his long journey to become a Pokémon master, some male, some female, and others being a really adorable Lapras. Japanese website NetLab asked Japanese Pokémon fans who their favorite female companion was from the series, with 5,431 people choosing their best girl.

Just a reminder: Crunchyroll took no part in this quiz or had a hand in its results, we are just as interested as you are in what Japanese fans think. Without further ado, I choose you:

It’s surprising to see companions from Pokémon XY both top and come last in the list, though Serena being number one is expected. Throughout her run, she was hugely beloved thanks to her very well-written character arc, with the last episode featuring the character seeing her trend in Japan. The newest female companion, Chloe, seems to already be embraced by Pokémon anime fans, even though arguably she’s not one to go out the adventures with Ash and Goh.

So Crunches, who is your favorite female companion? Let us know in the comments below!
