Demon Slayer Dominates the Japanese Publishing Industry in Oricon's Mid-Year Manga and Light Novel Rankings
Japanese tracking website Oricon released its estimated numbers for most-sold manga and light novels earlier today for the first half of 2021, with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba once again taking the top spot for both rankings (by series). Though not too far behind Demon Slayer is JUJUTSU KAISEN on the individual manga rankings, with the present-day series taking the top light novel slots, making for a rivalry between the two new Weekly Shonen Jump powerhouses.
As a side note, Oricon tracks the physical releases of books in Japan from the period of November 23, 2020, to May 23, 2021, and doesn't factor in digital sales.

In the regular book categories, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba also comes up on top with Koyoharu Gotouge's art book selling 470,183 copies, as well as making the manga creator the top-selling author in the overall books category with an estimated 1,146,042 copies sold of their art books. One crazy aspect of the rankings is that if volume 23 of Demon Slayer was counted by itself in the "series" category, it would be 3rd, ahead of every volume of Attack on Titan sold in the last 6 months, as well as literally every other manga series.
When the full-year numbers release at the end of the year, it'll be interesting to see if we get a new champion in JUJUTSU KAISEN, or Demon Slayer continues its domination for another year after taking the crown from the decade long king of manga, One Piece.
