Studio Ghibli announced on their website today they will be will releasing high-quality images from all their films on the website in batches starting from this month. On the blog post announcing the news, the studio says that the screenshots are "free to use" but only "within the bounds of common sense." A very Ghibli way of putting it.
Each film will be getting 50 HD screenshots each, with the first batch having 400 images released as of September 19. The first batch of films include:
- When Marnie Was There
- The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
- The Wind Rises
- From Up on Poppy Hill
- The Secret World of Arrietty
- Ponyo
- Tales from Earthsea
- Spirited Away
Look forward to more "free to use" images on the Studio Ghibli website coming in the next few months, I know I'm excited to have official high-quality images to use as backgrounds!
