Japan Box Office: Violet Evergarden The Movie Keeps Its 2nd Place with 132 Million Yen

In its second weekend, Kyoto Animation's all-new film Violet Evergarden The Movie earned 132 million yen on 88,000 admissions. While showing a huge 48 percent drop from its first weekend gross of 252 million yen, it has still kept its second place in the overall weekend box office ranking.

The 140-minute film has made 810 million yen so far and has already surpassed the total domestic gross of the franchise's previous film Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll released in September 2019 (640 million yen). Now it has become the fourth top-grossing Japanese anime film of this year so far, behind Doraemon: Nobita's New Dinosaur (3.11 billion yen), Fate stay night Heaven's Feel Ⅲ.spring song (1.81 billion yen), and Crayon Shin-chan: Crash! Rakuga Kingdom and Almost Four Heroes (840 million yen).

Following the well-received TV anime adaptation, the live-action film adaptation of Sumito Oowara's Eizouken niwa Te wo Dasuna! / Keep Your Hands off Eizouken! manga was finally released in 158 theaters on September 25 and ranked a little disappointing fifth place in its opening weekend. It also ranked only eighth in Filmark's first-day satisfaction ranking with an approval rating of 3.55 based on 486 reviews. The film starring three members of the Japanese girl idol group Nogizaka46 was originally set for May 15 but had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel Ⅲ.spring song ranked ninth in its seventh weekend, one position down from the previous weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to an impressive 1,823,971,600 yen. Aniplex has announced that the total domestic gross of the trilogy anime films based on the third route of Type-Moon's visual novel Fate/stay night has finally reached five billion yen.
