Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha's manga website Comic Ruelle & Comic Jardin has posted a short prologue of Rui Takato's Pale Blue Dot Battle Athletes Daiundoukai ReSTART!, an upcoming original sequel manga to the Battle Athletes mixed-media franchise in the 1990s. Its last page announces that a new anime project is in the works.
The sci-fi sports franchise tells heated battles by the sports elite in the entire solar system for the title of the greatest athlete, Cosmic Beauty. The six-episode OVA Battle Athletes Daiundoukai was released from May 1997 to June 1998, and the 26-episode TV anime of the same name (Battle Athletes Victory in the West) was aired from October 1997 to March 1998.
The story of the sequel manga is set in in A.D. 5100, 100 years after the original series. And according to the author Takato's tweet, no descendants of the original series' characters are planned to appear. Its first two chapters will be posted on the site in July.
