With the Pokémon TV anime returned to Japanese TV screens, the current Pokémon World Championship arc is back into full swing. With the tournament being set in the Galar region – the same region as the latest entries in the Pokémon video games, Pokémon Sword and Shield –, a whole new set of characters are appearing in the long-running TV anime, such as Sonia, alongside characters we've known from previous TV anime series.
Sonia, the professors assistant in the Sword and Shield games and Leon's rival/buddy, will be making her TV anime debut next week with Marina Inoue set to voice her. Inoue is most known for being the voice of Armin in Attack on Titan, Momo Yaoyorozu in My Hero Academia, and Sodachi Oikura in the Monogatari series starting with OWARIMONOGATARI. Sonia has already appeared in anime form in the Pokémon Twilight Wings special, with Lynn voicing the character.
Inoue previously voiced the Aria in the Pokémon XY TV anime series and Malva in the Pokémon Generations mini web anime.

Also debuting in next week's episode is dragon-type Gym leader Raihan, voiced by Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Makoto in the Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club series). Raihan will be battling it out with Leon in the Pokémon World Championship.
Pokémon Journeys: the series is currently streaming on Netflix, with 12 episodes currently released on the platform dubbed into English. No word yet on when the next batch of episodes will be released.
