Nobita's robotic cat friend from the future is turning 50 according to our clocks—and to celebrate, he's gtting his own clock!
The new Doraemon clock opened in front of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Tokyo's Odaiba District. The playfully-designed structure features "boxes" containing images of Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends, with the clock itself at the very top. In a curtained box in the middle lives the Mood-Lifting Orchestra, part of Doraemon's stash of futuristic inventions, which plays the Doraemon theme song at certain times throughout the day.
You can also see life-sized statues of Doraemon, Nobita, and Shizuka on the clock's platform.
The beloved classic has seen multiple generations through its childhood years with annual films and regularly-running TV series. Also joining the anniversary festivities are 2020's film Nobita's New Dinosaurs and the recently released Doraemon Story of Seasons game.
The clock began ticking at 10am JST today, and will be followed this Sunday by the first official Doraemon store nearby.
