New Doraemon Ukiyo-e Print Reimagines Classic Japanese Art

The robot cat from the future know as Doraemon has traveled all across time and space. So it's not surprising that this vintage anime and manga creation should appear with his friends in a piece of classic Japanese artwork!

The new ukiyo-e print is a reimagining of Utagawa Hiroshige's 19th century print Sudden Shower at Shōno, from his Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō. The original work depictures villagers and palanquin bearers dashing for cover in a torrential downpour. This new riff on the art replaces the characters with Suneo and Gian carrying Shizuka's palanquin, with Doraemon and Nobita on either side.

Reservations are now open for these woodblock prints on the Ukiyo-e Work website, and are priced at 49,500 yen each (tax included). Only 300 of the prints will be sold, making them a unique collector's item for fans of Japanese artwork and vintage anime.
