One Piece Film: Red Anime Film Blasts Past 10 Billion Yen at JP Box Office

One Piece Film: Red

One Piece Film: Red has reached heights and taken bounties tougher than any anime film in the franchise has ever dreamed, with the official Twitter account confirming this morning that Toei Animation-produced film has passed 10 billion yen at the Japanese box office, doing so in just 20 days. This makes One Piece the 41st film in Japan to ever pass this mark and currently the 11th highest-grossing anime film in the country.

As of August 25, the film's 20th day in theaters, One Piece Film: Red has brought in 10 billion yen (US$72.86 million) on the back of 7.2 million tickets sold. The One Piece film was already the highest-grossing anime film from Toei Animation, but has now moved past all the Detective Conan anime films and is on track to pass both Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time and even JUJUTSU KAISEN 0

One Piece Film: Red is also the second-fastest film in Japan to reach the 10 billion yen milestone surpassing the mark 5 days ahead of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. Spirited Away once held that record for nearly two decades until Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train shattered the record in October 2020.

Manga creator Eiichiro Oda drew a celebratory image for the milestone:

A celebratory stage event for the 10 billion yen milestone will be held on September 1 at the Marunouchi TOEI theater. Luffy’s voice actor Mayumi Tanaka, Uta’s voice actor Kaori Nazuka and director Goro Taniguchi will be in attendance. According to the reveal of the event, there will be a new announcement about the series during the stage.

One Piece Film: Red opened in Japanese theaters on August 6. Crunchyroll, who'll be releasing the film internationally across the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand sometime this fall, describes the seafaring musical adventure as such:

Uta —the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans—excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance—the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks' daughter.

The One Piece TV anime is also still going strong, with over 1,000 episodes of the series streaming right here on Crunchyroll, with new episodes coming out as they air in Japan.
