Komi Can't Communicate is an endearing series casting light on the issues of social anxiety — and for lots of us, that's really meaningful. Even more so, we're sure, when you're the one who gets to bring that character to life.
Voice actress Amber Lee Connors announced today on Twitter that she'll be playing Shoko Komi, the beautiful heroine of the series who suffers from a severe communication disorder. Connors adds that the role is "incredibly special" to her, as she's had her own battles with social anxiety:
I’m beyond ecstatic to announce you can hear me as Shoko Komi in Komi Can’t Communicate This role is incredibly special to me, as someone who grew up with severe social anxiety & worked hard to overcome it. You can check the dub out on Netflix now pic.twitter.com/lbLGhmf9uv

Connors isn't the only one who's "beyond ecstatic" that she's taking on the role. Fans of her other roles — which range from time-travelling rocker I-No in Guilty Gear -Strive- to Attack on Titan's sweet and smart Pieck Finger — have voiced their excitement over the casting.
Komi Can't Communicate is based on the manga series by Tomohito Oda, which is available in English from Viz:
Socially anxious high school student Shoko Komi’s greatest dream is to make some friends, but everyone at school mistakes her crippling social anxiety for cool reserve. With the whole student body keeping its distance and Komi unable to utter a single word, friendship might be forever beyond her reach.
You can watch all of Komi Can't Communicate right now on Netflix.
