Please tell me! Galko-chan Manga Removed From Online Publications, Creator Charged With Violating Customs Law

Content Warning: Mention of child pornography-related charges

On December 20, Please tell me! Galko-chan manga creator Kenya Suzuki was arrested for violating the Customs Act on the suspicion of trying to import books containing the images of naked children from Germany. On December 27, the Nagoya District Court announced that Suzuki has been charged for breaking the Customs Act for importing prohibited goods from abroad.

Meanwhile, on December 24, Kadokawa's Comic Walker platform, which released the Please tell me! Galko-chan manga chapter by chapter through its WebComic Apanda imprint, revealed that it has pulled the series from its platform and stopped serialization due to "media reports about the author". The series' page now leads to a 404 error page.

The Toyota Police Department of the Aichi Prefectural Police arrested Suzuki, a resident of Funabashi City in Chiba prefecture, on December 20. Nishi Nippon reported on the day that Suzuki said that to police he “really wanted to obtain nude photos of children from abroad which are not readily available in Japan." Suzuki is being charged with importing six books from Germany in September and October in two shipments via international registered mail over the last year. The shipments were discovered by Nagoya customs, who then alerted the Nagoya District Public Prosecutors Office Okazaki branch office. The Toyota Police Department said they also found 46 books in Suzuki’s Funabashi City home that contained obscene material featuring minors in an investigation.
