My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission Leads at No. 1 at Japanese Box Office in Anime Film’s 4th Weekend
My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission went plus ultra last week in becoming the highest-grossing My Hero Academia anime film in theaters in Japan, but this weekend it pulled off another plus ultra feat, being number one at the Japanese box office in its fourth weekend. This is the first time the film has been number one in its Japanese run!
The film made 204 million yen (US$1.85 million) over Saturday and Sunday with 128,000 tickets sold to become the number one film in Japan for the August 28, 29 weekend. In total (as of August 29), World Heroes' Mission has brought in 2.4 billion yen (US$21.43 million) on the back of 1.81 million tickets sold, making it the highest-grossing My Hero Academia film ever in Japanese theaters. It's only around US$7 million away from being the highest-grossing film in the franchise worldwide.
The fifth season of the My Hero Academia TV anime series is currently airing in Japan and streaming on Crunchyroll soon after the Japanese broadcast. My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes Mission opens in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa on October 28, and in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Ireland on October 29 in both subbed and dubbed formats.
