Evening began as a special edition of Kodansha’s Morning magazine, eventually evolving to become Monthly Evening in 2001 and then moving to a bi-weekly publication in 2003 with an independent editorial department to Morning.
Some popular series that have been published in Evening includes: Hiroya Oku’s Inuyashiki, Masayuki Ishikawa’s Moyashimon, Yasuhisa Kubo’s You're Being Summoned, Azazel and many more. The series that are currently being serialized in Evening will move to Kodansha’s Comic Days! platform with the editorial department being re-merged with Morning.

While the Evening editorial department hasn’t given a reason behind the discontinuation of the magazine, circulation for Evening has dropped from 115,617 copies every two weeks in 2015 to around 42,000 copies in September 2022.
