Japan's national broadcasting station NHK has announced the songs to be performed in its annual New Year's Eve special live-broadcasting program, Kohaku Uta Gassen, including "Zankyo Sanka" (TV anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc opening theme) by Aimer. This will be her first appearance in Japan's highest-rating music program in her 11-year career.
She also sings "Omokage" (Remnant), along with milet and Lilas Ikuta in the program's special segment. The song was produced by Vaundy as a collaboration project for the THE FIRST TAKE YouTube channel. It is rare for one singer to sing more than one song on Kohaku.
Other anime/manga-related songs that will be sung in Kohaku are as follows:
- "New Genesis" Uta (One Piece Film Red theme song)
- "Itoshisa to Setsunasa to Kokoro Zuyosa to" Ryoko Shinohara (Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie theme song)
- "Comedy" Gen Hoshino (SPX x FAMILY 1st cour ending theme)
- "Brother Beat" Snow Man (Mr.Osomatsu live-action film theme song)
- "Genkai Toppa x Survivor" Kiyoshi Hikawa (Dragon Ball Super opening theme)
This year's Kohoaku will be aired on NHK from 19:20 to 23:45 on December 31, 2022 (JST).
