LiSA Takes Back Top Download Female Artist Crown in 2021 with Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Arc Opening Theme
Japanese industry tracking website Oricon announced the leader of the weekly digital charts yesterday, revealing that for the second week in a row, LiSA topped them, this time with the opening theme song for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train Arc. The prolific singer held the top spot last week but for the main theme song to Sword Art Online The Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night "Yuke" instead of Demon Slayer's "Akeboshi."
While that's great news for the artist, Oricon went on to confirm that "Akeboshi" had sold 75,630 copies via digital platforms, making the single the highest selling song for a week for a female artist digitally in 2021. LiSA was the first artist to hold the title in 2021 with "Homura" from Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train, but was dethroned by Hikaru Utada's "One Last Kiss," the main theme song for the Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time anime film. "One Last Kiss" sold 72,000 copies in the first week of sales digitally. Utada at the time had not come out as non-binary, which occurred in June 2021, and Oricon still lists them as "female" for ranking purposes at this time.
This is the 6th time LiSA has debuted at number one on the digital charts – the most out of every female singer in Japan. The charts began in December 2017.
The music video to "Yuke," last week's top-selling digital single
Overall, in the digital Oricon charts, Kenshi Yonezu holds the spot for highest-selling single, while the duo YAOSOBI holds the most songs to debut at number 1 with 8 singles.
You can catch "Akeboshi" as the opening theme tune to Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train Arc, which streams on Crunchyroll as it airs in Japan.
