For those of us left waiting for more Fruits Basket after the ending of The Final Season, the story of Tohru and Kyo will continue in a special story accompanying the newly revealed theatrical release of the previously announced prequel story, now titled Fruits Basket -prelude-, which got its title and a new visual today.
The above visual was drawn by Fruits Basket manga creator Natsuki Takaya and featuring Tohru's parents Kyoko and Katsuya Honda as we've never seen them before (for anime viewers that is!). Takaya also wrote the new story featuring Tohru and Kyo exclusively for the theatrical screenings.
The prequel story, Fruits Basket -prelude-, will be released alongside a digest of the series as well as the sequel story on February 18, 2022. A Blu-ray of the stories will be released on the same day in theater shops in Japan. The entire three seasons of Fruits Basket are streaming right now on Crunchyroll, which describes the series as such:
Tohru Honda thought her life was headed for misfortune when a family tragedy left her living in a tent. When her small home is discovered by the mysterious Soma clan, she suddenly finds herself living with Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Soma. But she quickly learns their family has a bizarre secret of their own: when hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Zodiac!
