Happy Pokémon Day, trainers! Just as the festivities in Japan come to a close, the day is anew and it’s time for the celebrations to get started in the west. Not only was the Top 10 Pokémon of the Year released – with some surprising results –, the previously teased Mythical Pokémon was announced!
Watch the full unveiling of the winners, and see the full list below.
10. Gengar
9. Gardevoir
8. Rayquaza
7. Garchomp
6. Sylveon
5. Umbreon
4. Charizard
3. Mimikyu
2. Lucario
1. Greninja
Surprisingly in the list, there's no Eevee, Pikachu, or Slowpoke at all in the Top 10. Though the list has a pretty even spread across all generations, with only two generations of Pokémon not appearing at all, those from Unova and the new Galar region. Umbreon, which hails from the Johto region, and Mimikyu, who's native to Alola, are the only Pokémon to appear from their respective regions, with all other regions having two representatives. Sadly, no Dunsparce found its way into the mix either.
The previously teased Mythical Pokémon was also unveiled in its own special video. The Dark/Grass Pokémon Zarude comes with the ability Leaf Guard, which prevents status conditions in harsh sunlight but has no effect otherwise. More information on the Pokémon and how it'll fit into Pokémon Sword and Shield will be released at a later time.
