In recent weeks, more and more studios and exhibitors have been pulling out of this year's Game Developers Conference (GDC 2020), which was set to be held in San Francisco from March 16 to 20. In light of these cancelations—which come along with growing concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus—GDC 2020 has officially been postponed until this summer.
Gamasutra, which is a sibling organization to GDC under parent company Informa Tech, posted about the updated plans yesterday. While details still need to be finalized, GDC reps say they "fully intend to host a GDC event later in the summer."
Sony and Facebook were among the biggest exhibitors to cancel GDC 2020 plans, followed by similar exits from the likes of Microsoft, Kojima Productions, Amazon, Blizzard, and more.
Those who need more info can check out the official site's FAQ page. Those who had panels planned have the option of submitting talks in video form to be posted online for free. As for the award shows—the Game Developers Choice Awards and the Independent Games Festival—those will stream live on Twitch during the week of March 16.
