This time of year is a very important one for students in Japan wanting to get into their preferred universities with entrance exams happening all over the country. On February 25, the second-highest rated university in Japan, Kyoto University, had its entrance exams and awaiting potential students before their exams was this:
京大入試に「きゅぅべえ」がいた。

何故きゅぅべえなのか聞いたところ、「希望が絶望に変わるときのエネルギーを回収しにきたんだよ」と言われて爆笑した pic.twitter.com/sIjRojH2Pf
The above tweet, as well as many others, show the signs of encouragement (or discouragement in Kyubey’s case) left by the current students of Kyoto University. These signs are a tradition among universities in Japan to help alleviate the pressure on examinees during a very important step in their lives. When @kusyokuin asked why Kyubey, from the currently airing Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story TV anime, was there to encourage prospective students, the costumed Mami replied that Kyubey was there to “recover energy when hope turns into despair.”
Unlike the ethereal anime character, Machio from How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? wished students luck and asked them, “how much studying did you do for the entrance exams?” An obvious play on the title of the series he’s from.

Other signs included Nadeko from the Monogatari series, Uzaki from the upcoming Uzaki-Chan Wants to Hang Out! anime series, and more.

Other than Kyubey, hopefully the posters helped encourage the students to do well on the exams and they get into Kyoto University and lead a life straight out of The Tatami Galaxy, where the university featured extensively.
