Hideaki Anno-Drawn First Shin Ultraman Design Sketch Revealed

Khara's official Twitter has posted a first design sketch of Ultraman to be featured in the forthcoming all-new live-action film Shin Ultraman. It was drawn by the film's planner/screenplay writer Hideaki Anno on October 3, 2018.

Bin Furuya, the original suit actor in the first Ultraman TV series (1966-1967), was body-scanned for the sketch, then the hero's iconic patterns and body lines were added onto it. The data from Furuya's feet (including his fingers) was directly used for the sketch. The new Ultraman is seemingly very different from the one appeared in the mysterious pilot PV "ULTRAMAN_n/a" posted in July 2015.

The concept of the new Ultraman's design without the iconic color timer on his chest is inspired by "Shinjitsu to Seigi to Bi no Keshin" (The incarnation of truth, justice, and beauty), the Ultraman original designer Toru Narita's drawing in 1983. Hideaki Anno said that the origin of the new design concept was his desire to somehow make the beauty of this drawing into a film.
