Weddings are a very important day in a couple’s lives, but can also be quite the extravagant event. From gathering friends and family to booking a suitable venue, there’s a lot of work that goes into this potentially once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. As we’ve seen in TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You thus far, Nasa and Tsukasa have managed to circumvent having a wedding due to the quick nature in which the two of them got married. However, new discussions about having a wedding have been brought to the forefront and a lot of people’s opinions have been given light. Only one of these folks has a realistic idea of what a wedding entails though, and that’s Tsukasa.
For the most part, we all have a pretty basic idea of what goes into making a wedding such an event. You’ve got to book venues, get the right attire, hire catering, send out a bunch of invitations, find the right decorations and so many other additions that make it a wonderful time for the bride and groom. Not only does that cost a lot of money, it’s also a lot of time and effort that the couple has to put in. This is why you’ll often see weddings booked months to years in advance. Despite this presumably being common knowledge, Nasa somehow has no clue about any of this.
Even though Tsukasa has remained adamant about not needing nor wanting a wedding, Nasa gets it in his head that this has to happen because you can’t be married this long and not have a place to celebrate that. This leads him to seeking out advice from his friends, which somehow leads to even more people not understanding how much time, money and effort goes into making a wedding happen.

The first piece of advice Nasa gets is from Kaname, who suggests doing some research as she shows him the prices for weddings at a mouse inspired theme park. This would certainly be on the more extreme side, considering the costs attached to it. This does a decent job of briefly quelling his desires for a wedding once he sees the exorbitant price tag. Although, I don’t know if Kaname really needed to go this far to show why weddings are expensive, just a normal wedding’s price tag would most likely be enough to scare Nasa off.
It is a bit peculiar that Kaname only uses one example of why a wedding could be expensive, she could have shown a multitude of other costs to make Nasa change his mind, but given how other characters in this episode react, she might not have known or really thought about that at all.
Nasa seems to have been talked down from this idea, but he runs into Aya, who effectively becomes a hype person for him and puts the idea back in his head, getting Nasa excited for a wedding all over again. Aya also tells him the many benefits of having a wedding — like seeing Tsukasa in a wedding dress. Tsukasa tried to reason with them, but even after all of that, Nasa still thinks scrounging up 3-4 million yen would be doable for an occasion like this. Aya does tell Nasa that weddings have to be booked a long time in advance, though neither she nor Nasa understand why until Tsukasa lays out the logistics for them.

Luckily, Nasa does get some good advice from Aya, which is to go buy one of those thick wedding magazines that tells you everything to do to have the perfect wedding. As someone who has had to buy one of those before, it did make me laugh recalling just how big they are. Nasa having to actually sit down and basically see everything laid out in front of him finally leads him to the conclusion that maybe they don’t have the time or money to have a wedding at this point. That’s Nasa for you, he might not have the best common sense, but give him data to analyze and he’ll come to a solid conclusion.
Tsukasa tried her hardest to skirt Nasa away from the idea of a wedding. She’s really the only character who has done a modicum of research into the ins and outs of weddings. The two of them aren’t going to be able to afford it, so why put in so much effort into something that’s going to leave you in such a debt?
It also helps that she does this in a way that’s not negative or flat out rejecting him. Tsukasa would also like this to happen, but the timing just makes no sense. There’s also the fact that they don’t need to have a big wedding to prove their love for each other or make each other happier, they’re already doing that in their own way by just being themselves. All of her arguments against it are logical and reasonable. It’s a good thing she picked up everything about wedding planning from a manga or else the two of them might have been out a couple million yen.
