The voice actor behind Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba's Tanjiro, Natsuki Hanae, revealed on Friday night that he is currently self-quarantining at his personal recording studio away from his family after being classified as a close contact with a staff member at his agency who has tested positive for COVID-19. Hanae's agency Across Entertainment confirmed that no other talent or staff has been classified as a close contact with this staff member.

Natsuki Hanae was scheduled to appear at an event for The Duke of Death and His Maid TV anime series today, but due to Hanae being unable to make the event, it has been canceled. Meanwhile, the premiere screening of the Goodbye, Don Glees! anime film will still be going ahead on Sunday, just without the voice actor. There's been no news on the upcoming Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Abema TV special that is set for Tuesday night.
In Across Entertainment's statement, the agency explained that the unnamed staff member had revealed to the agency that they had tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday after undertaking a PCR test and that due to the close contact nature with Natsuki Hanae, the voice actor has been put under voluntary self-quarantine under the guidance of a local health center while they await further instructions. As of Friday night, Hanae is completely okay with no COVID-19 symptoms.

Japan has been feeling a surge of new COVID-19 cases this month after months of staying under 100 cases per day. The explosion of new cases is from the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 which has been sweeping the world over the last two months. Tokyo recorded 4,051 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, January 14, an amount not seen since the Delta surge in August, and up from 922 new cases the Friday before.
