Studio Ghibli's The Wind Rises Will Fly Again as Two-Part Radio Drama

Studio Ghibli's 2013 film The Wind Rises retold the life of Jiro Horikoshi, an engineer famous for designing the Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" fighter jet. The story will be adapted once again, this time for radio as a two-part, two-person audio drama.

 

The drama is being produced at TBS Radio, the flagship station of the Japan Radio Network. Scriptwriter Keiko Niwa, who co-wrote several Ghibli titles including From up on Poppy Hill and penned the kabuki stage adaptation of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, has adapted the story for radio.

 

The two leads will be played by regular TBS presenters. Taking on the role of Horikoshi, originally played by anime director Hideaki Anno (Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the dub), is Takaoki Yamamoto:

And role of Horikoshi's wife Nahoko Satomi, originally played by TV and film actress Miori Takimoto (Emily Blunt in the dub), will be played by Reina Minagawa:

Nichinoken Presents Radio Drama "The Wind Rises" will air on TBS Radio August 5 and August 12.
