A spider-like mechanical war machine lights up with activity in a scene from the teaser trailer to the second cour of the 86 EIGHTY-SIX TV anime.

Some quick news for fans of military science fiction, mecha, and light novels: the second cour of 86 EIGHTY-SIX, an animated adaptation based on the novel series written by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabii about a caste of soldiers who are forced to pilot mecha in a never-ending war, will broadcast on Japanese TV beginning in October of 2021.

The series will broadcast on TOKYO MX and other stations. The exact TV schedule for the second cour broadcast has not yet been revealed.

86 EIGHTY-SIX is directed by Toshimasa Ishii and features animation production by A-1 Pictures. The first cour of the series is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, who describe the story of 86 EIGHTY-SIX as follows:

Called “Juggernaut,” these are the unmanned combat drones developed by the Republic of San Magnolia in answer to the attacks by the autonomous unmanned drones of the neighboring Empire of Giad, the “Legion”. But they’re only unmanned in name. In reality, they are piloted by the Eighty-sixers—those considered to be less than human and treated as mere tools. Determined to achieve his own mysterious ends, Shin, the captain of Spearhead Squadron, which is comprised of Eighty-sixers, continues to fight a hopeless war on a battlefield where only death awaits him.
