Japan Box Office: Kaguya-sama Live-Action Film Continues Successful Run, Surpassing 1.7 Billion Yen

Surpassing expectations drastically, the live-action film adaptation of Aka Akasaka's romantic comedy manga Kaguya-sama: Love Is War has continued its successful theatrical run in Japan. It has kept second position even in its fourth weekend with 130 million yen on 10,600 admissions, bringing its domestic cume over 1.74 billion yen.

At the stage greeting event to thank the film's success, both of the film's two leading stars, Sho Hirano (Miyuki Shirogane) and Kanna Hashimoto (Kaguya Shinomiya) expressed their desire for a sequel, according to Eiga.com's report on September 27.

Hirano said, "Everyone's love is too big! I'm so glad. I hope this become an opportunity to make a sequel. Nothing has been decided yet, but the manga has been still running. If your love is big enough, it may continue to the next." Then Hashimoto added, "I thought the September 12 event was the last one. So we drank a toast, hoping for a sequel. But now we can hold a stage greeting event urgently..., a sequel may be possible?"

Meanwhile, Makoto Shinkai's Weathering With You climbed one position up again to third in its 11th weekend with 133 million yen from the 85,000 ticket sales. The film had earned 13.2 billion yen, and will soon make over ten million ticket sales.

Two new live-action film adaptations of Japanese manga were released last weekend, Miyamoto kara Kimi he (from Miyamoto to You) based on Heideki Arai's and Aku no Hana (The Folwers of Evil) based on Shuzo Oshimi's. Both failed to rank in top 10.
