Eight months after the well-received TV drama series finished airing in Japan, it is finally confirmed today that a live-action feature film adaptation of Yumi Tamura's Do Not Say Mystery manga is set to be released in the fall of 2023.
The mystery manga has been serialized in Shogakukan's Monthly Flowers shoujo manga magazine since 2016 and has released 11 tankobon volumes. Its English edition is licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment, with a description as below:
Totonou is a young man who stands out–partly for his bushy hair, partly for his finely honed abilities of observation and deduction. When Totonou is accused of murder, he puts his skills to work delving into the lives of the cops investigating him and uses his insights to find the real murderer. After clearing his name, all Totonou wants to do is return to his laidback, mundane life, but he can’t help but be drawn into one mystery after another. In his own blunt but gentle way, Totonou is just trying to make sense of a chaotic world.
The manga's live-action TV drama series starring Masaki Suda (Shinpachi Shimura in the Gintama live-action series) as the protagonist Totonou Kunou was aired for 12 episodes on Fuji TV from January to March 2022.
Suda is confirmed to reprise his role. He says, "'Do Not Say Mystery' is going to be a film. So, while I am excited to see what curry is next, I am nervous that this will be the start of that battle again. I'll see what we we could and couldn't do in the TV drama, and will do my best to convey what Totonou-kun said and Tamura-sensei's thoughts correctly. Please look forward to it."
