This year's winners of the Hochi Film Awards, which are sponsored by the Hochi Shimbun organization and presented by Sports Hochi, were unveiled this morning announcing that Ayumu Watanabe's latest anime film, Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko won the "Best Animated Film" award while Takuya Kimura, who is best known as the voice and likeness for Yagami in the Judgment video game series, won "Best Actor" for his latest film Masquerade Night.
The lead producer on Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko, Japanese comedian Sanma Akashiya, said that the film and the award "doesn't belong to him" but instead belong to "director Watanabe and Studio 4℃." According to Akashiya, he just "assisted" on the film. Director Watanabe said that she was "glad" she made the movie.
Other winners today include the latest James Bond film No Time to Die as Best Foreign Picture, while In the Wake won Best Picture overall. Mei Nagano, who was the lead in the Police in a Pod live-action series this year, won Best Actress for And So the Baton Is Passed and Jigoku no Hanazono: Office Royale.

Nikuko is a brash, jolly, scattered, and passionate woman in an otherwise sleepy seaside town in northern Japan. She’s also the single mother of 11-year-old Kikuko, who is her opposite in many ways. Nikuko embarrasses Kikuko as any mom of a preteen would, but Nikuko’s bold spirit makes her especially well-known in a town where Kikuko herself wants nothing more than to simply blend in.
