Oricon also noted that Violet Evergarden: the Movie had been in the top 10 of the Japanese Box Office for an impressive 10 weeks!
Violet Evergarden: the Movie is now the second-highest-grossing Kyoto Animation film after A Silent Voice, which grossed 2.3 billion yen (US$22.06 million) over its lifetime run in Japanese theaters. It is currently the 9th highest-grossing animated film of 2020 around the world. A majority of film-goers are university students from 20 to 30 years old. The anime film will also be expanded to more cinemas across Japan, on November 27, December 11, and December 18.
To celebrate the impressive feats of the anime film, the official website for Violet Evergarden announced new theatrical benefits for those who are seeing the film in Japan which include:
More printings of the short stories written by the author Kana Akatsuki, given out at random to cinemas that were already screening Violet Evergarden: the Movie prior to November 27
And a special postcard from Écarté Island featuring Violet and Gilbert for new cinemas (the postcard was previously exclusive to Dolby Vision screenings)
Violet Evergarden the Movie opened in Japanese theaters on September 18. We reviewed the film when it released. A Dolby Vision version of the film opened on November 13 in Japan. The anime film is heading to Australia on December 3.
