If you're strolling around Tokyo-3 and head into the local convenience store, you'll need some Evangelion coins to pay for the onigiri and donuts you're gonna wanna munch down on while waiting for the next Impact to happen. Luckily, Japan Mint has issued some Evangelion coins for your all purchasing needs (that also come with some real currency too)!
Though maybe you wouldn't want to use them, as the proof versions coins, which is limited to a run of 20,000 and has a mirror-like finish and come in a special leather case featuring colored coins of the NERV logo and Unit 01, will set you back some real money, 13,700 yen (US$129) to be exact.
There’s a more affordable set available, with a higher print run of 50,000 sets, that feature Shinji Ikari and Rei Ayanami in a special clear case alongside the normal Reiwa 2 coins for 2,500 yen (US$24).
The sets were created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the airing of Neon Genesis Evangelion in 1995. Both sets are available to order within Japan from the Japan Mint website, or through Japan Post, until Septemeber 17. They'll also be available in-store at EVANGELION shops around the countries and select international shops.
