Pui Pui Molcar was created by Tomoki Misato, who directs, writes and storyboards at studios Japan Green Hearts and Shin-Ei Animation. The non-verbal stop-motion series aired as part of children's variety program Kinder TV on TV Tokyo, but quickly found a global audience across all ages and was the most popular anime of the Winter 2021 anime season, according to Japanese popular review site Filmarks.

Netflix, who streamed the first series worldwide in four compilation episodes, describes it as such:

They're guinea pigs! And they're cars! The fuzzy and adorable molcars have lots of fun adventures in this delightful stop-motion animation.
