The Quintessential Quintuplets Manga Author: "14 Million Copies was The Number I Was Aiming for"

It has been confirmed that a total print run of Negi Haruba's romantic comedy manga Gotoubun no Hanayome / The Quintessential Quintuplets has surpassed 14 million copies by December 2020. The number is currently being displayed in large advertisements at JR Takadanobaba station in Tokyo.

The author wrote on Twitter, "14 volumes and 14 million copies were the numbers I was aiming for, so I am very happy! It all thanks to the bookstores that keep it on the shelves even after it's finished, and to the readers who pick it up. Thank you!"

Gotoubun no Hanayome / The Quintessential Quintuplets was originally published as a one-shot story in Weekly Shonen Magazine's 8th issue of 2017. Thanks to the favorable response from the readers, it started serialization in the magazine's 36th/37th combined issue of the same year.

The manga ended serialization in the magazine on February 19, 2020, then its final 14th tankobon volume was released on April 17. It reached the one million-seller mark in October 2018, 12 months after its first tankobon volume was released. Since the Tezuka Productions-produced TV anime started airing in January 2019, the sales number has skyrocketed. The TV anime's second season titled The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬ has been already set to premiere in Japan on January 8, 2021, so the number is expected to grow more.
